14 Days until HayDays, the official kickoff to winter! Get your order in now and we'll bring it to HayDays for you!

Well its that time of year again, your sled has been sitting now for 5 months. The crank is starting to rust, gas is way old, seals are starting to dry up, track needs to be run, I think you better get after it. We have talked about this many times in the past, but some of you seem to forget, and you happen to be the ones who are the first ones at the Dealership for service. This can be avoided, go fire that thing up! It doesn't hurt a thing. Crank it up and let it run until the heat exchangers are warm and shut it down. Do this again in September and you will save yourself a whole lot of grief and a whole lot of cash! Get some fresh gas in the tank and maybe even bring a can of pledge and shine er' up. Be ready for the first snowfall!

Black Magic is making preparations for HayDays. We will be in our regular booth, E6,E7. Right next to Arctic Cat. If your looking to order something and are planning to attend Haydays, now is your chance! Place your order now and we can bring your item to HayDays!

Free Power?

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Black Magic newletter. Due to the over-abundance of tech calls we have received recently and a recent tech short we spotted in a popular snowmobile rag, we are going to discuss the issue of fuel and performance mods.

I'm not sure how many of you read the snowmobile magazines out there today, but I'm guessing that a few of you do. We here at Black Magic page through every mag 2-3 times before it gets put back in the rack. Recently we received our copy of a particular magazine of which we are pretty fond of and paged through. We ran into a little excerpt about Arctic cat 800 & 1000 Y-pipes and ECU's that really struck a nerve, and we would like to add our opinion!

The article talks about the Cat 800 & 1000 engines and specifically about some bolt-on items that have incredible performance gains, but require no fuel. According to the note, the technical consultants indicated a Y-pipe can be added without changes to the fuel map other then making sure you have the latest ECU programming installed from Arctic Cat.

Now we've seen some of the claimed gains from adding just a Y-Pipe, and we wonder how this can be?  We have spent many hours on the 800 and 1000 motors, both on our dyno and in the field testing. We have seen the gains of 10 or more horse on our superflow dyno. We have witnessed the performance gain in the field. But, as with any performance mod, in order to make horsepower you need one thing. Fuel!

These new Cat motors are much leaner then the motors of the past. Gone are the days of being able to utilize any "extra" fuel in the stock fuel map. We have seen it first hand while testing the 800 last winter, and spent money repairing a couple of 1000 motors because we wanted to see what happened when we ran Y-pipes and other mods without adding fuel. They either went Slower or burned down. Some of our findings were backed up by a tech article in the February 2007 issue of Cats Pride.

The article started out with the statement, The adage, "There is no Free lunch," remains true as ever, especially when it comes to performance upgrades for your snowmobile.

How very true!

The article goes on to say Arctic Cat engineers were recently reminded of this when testing an aftermarket exhaust product on the new 1000 2-stroke engine. Equipped with stock fuel mapping, the modified engine seized a piston during its first dyno run. The problem: the modified exhaust required different fuel calibration for the engine's EFI system.

Now we wonder, who is right here?  According to all the testing we have conducted at Black Magic, we will side with the Arctic Cat engineers. If you are going to add a Y-pipe, or any other mod to your 800 or 1000, you best be spending an additional $300-$400 for a fuel control box. It is not possible to gain 10 or more horse on these motors without adding fuel! Plain and simple! If you modify your snowmobile engine to produce more power, it needs more fuel.  If you're told you don't need more fuel when adding a power-increasing part, you need to ask why.

October 12th

It' Coming!!
Last Tuesday morning, we woke up to 2" to 4" of the WHITE STUFF!.  Granted, it didn't stay long, be we are hoping it is a precursor of things to come!  It certainly made us smile!

Testing on the 2008 Prowler is on going.  Currently we are working on getting past the pesky 50mph barrier on the new Prowler.  When you hit 50, the ignition cuts out.  Doesn't matter what rpm, as now the Prowlers are cutting out based on speed rather then rpm.  Well we have a fix for that, it will be available soon!  We are also working on a few options for the intake.  We have our in-expensive KickAss air intake, which we are field testing right now, which should be available soon. We are also working on a complete air-box system to replace the stock unit.  It draws air from a different location, getting rid of the funky air intake snorkel that draws air from the right rear wheel wheel.  We have a slip on system and a full exhaust proto-type that is being tested and we hope to have that available soon.

We have also been working on a add-on after muffler quiet exhaust for all the hunters and people who just want to be a little more stealth.  We got something we like so far, just going to get some testing on it and make sure it holds up!  Stay tuned!

Did you hear?  West Racing recently competed in the first ever ATV Endurocross down in Guthrie, Oklahoma.  How did it go you ask?  Well, piloting Arctic Cat 700 EFI's equipped with Black Magic exhaust systems, Jesse West took 1st place, and brother Josh West took 3rd.  Pat Brons rounded out the team effort with a 5th place effort!  Just how good was the effort by the West brothers?  Well Jesse posted lap times a full 2 seconds faster then any other Utility quad.  Furthermore, the fastest overall time for ALL ATV's, was posted by Jesse West.  Faster lap times then the 450 sport quads!  Now thats haulin!

The product for all 2008 sleds is ready and waiting to be tested and verified for performance and durability.  First snow we will be out!  We will be running Y-pipes, single pipes, clutching, canisters, timing and anything else that needs to get checked.
Also, look for clutching for the Jaguar Z1, the '08 F570 and of course the new updated 3 weight 1000 motors.

On this weeks special we have a deal for all the new F & Crossfire 800 and 1000 owners.  Order our Super Single Pipe, TFI fuel controller and HearthThrob clutching and get the whole package for $700 U.S.D.  Thats $100 off retail!  We will also expand that for all F and CF 600 owners, get a Super Single, Clutching and canister for $700 U.S.D.  Thats $133 off!  Got an 03-06 Firecat?  Get a Super Single Pipe, clutching, and canister for $700.
Special does not include any special items or services such as ceramic coating, custom setup or substitutions.
